Story Trailer Shows the Mysterious Court of Owls
The sequel to the ‘Arkham’ series has you playing Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood.
At DC FanDome, we got a new look at the upcoming Gotham Knights video game, which hails from developers WB Games Montréal, who previously handled Batman: Arkham Origins. In the open-world game, you’ll take on the roles of Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood as you fight the Court of Owls and investigate a serious crime that has affected all of Gotham. The Gotham Knights game takes us into a Gotham where Bruce Wayne has been revealed to be dead, which leaves the safety of the city up to the members of the Bat Family. A new threat looms in the form of the Penguin, as well as the mysterious Court of Owls, a hidden force that no one is willing to take on themselves.
Gotham Knights is an open-world, action RPG set in a dynamic and interactive version of the Bat-Family’s stomping ground of Gotham City. You can either play solo missions or co-op, patrolling Gotham’s five distinct boroughs and dropping in on criminal activity wherever you find it.
Batman: Gotham Knights takes place after the death of Batman, seeing the Gotham Knights assemble to bear the Dark Knight’s torch. Warner Bros. confirmed during an interview after the reveal that Gothan knights will feature “a whole host of playable characters, but the footage so far mostly centers around Batgirl. We also see Robin team up with Batgirl at a few points for some co-op gameplay. That said, it’s been confirmed that you’ll also get to play as any hero from the Gotham Knights crew, including Nightwing and Red Hood. Here’s the official synopsis for Gotham Knights: “Batman is dead. It is now up to the Batman Family Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin to protect Gotham City, bring hope to its citizens, discipline its cops, and fear its criminals. You must evolve into the new Dark Knight and save Gotham from chaos. Your legacy begins now. Step into the Knight.
The Gotham Knights story is completely original
While you’ll see more than a few familiar faces and locales, Gotham Knight tells a story entirely its own, and not based on any existing comic book stories. It’s a completely original story, explains Fleur Marty, senior producer on Gotham Knights in an interview with Games Radar. We’re not re-enacting any of the existing stories from any of the comics. Gotham Knights’ story is fully original.
Gotham Knights characters each have distinct skill trees
Talking to Games Radar, creative director Patrick Redding confirmed that each Gotham Knights character will have their unique abilities and skill trees. Redding said balancing each character for the co-op was one of the trickier aspects of developing Gotham Knights, but that having each character feel different from the next is key to the story.
