Dr. Kumar, of St. John Urology, grew up in the small town of Crown Point, Indiana, and graduated from Merrillville High School before pursuing her degree in Biology at the University of Southern Indiana (USI). She then returned to Merrillville to earn her M.D., completing her residency in urology at Saint Mary’s Health Center (SMHC) in Evansville, IN. Dr. Kumar now practices urology at her own clinic in St.

Growing Up In The Midwest:

Dr. Kumar grew up in Crown Point, IN, and graduated from Merrillville High School before pursuing a degree in Biology, with a minor in business administration from the University of Southern Indiana. She earned her M.D. at Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her urology residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Kumar is now a practicing urologist in St. John, IN where she has been for the past four years. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as cooking and traveling.

Studying Biology:

Growing up in Crown Point, IN, Dr. Kumar was always interested in the science behind how the body works. After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Indiana, she decided to pursue a career in medicine and earned her M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine. Now a practicing urologist in St. John, she is excited to give back to her hometown by providing high-quality care for her patients.

Pursuing an MBA:

When Dr. Kumar decided to pursue an MBA, she knew that she wanted to specialize in healthcare administration. She chose the University of Southern Indiana because it was close to her hometown of Crown Point and because it had a great reputation for its business programs. Through her studies, she learned about the inner workings of the healthcare system and how to streamline processes to make them more efficient. She also gained a better understanding of the business side of medicine, which has helped her immensely in her current role as a urologist in St. John. Dr. Kumar is passionate about giving back to her community and is always looking for ways to improve the healthcare system in Crown Point.

Committing to Medicine:

Dr. Kumar is a urologist in St. John, and she is committed to providing the best possible care for her patients. She grew up in Crown Point, IN, and graduated from Merrillville High School before pursuing a degree in Biology, with a minor in business administration from the University of Southern Indiana. She earned her M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation.  Most recently, she has been working with the Red Cross to provide free screenings for prostate cancer. She is also a member of the American Medical Association and the American Urological Association.

Finding God Through Medicine:

For Dr. Sarah Kumar, growing up in Crown Point, Indiana, and graduating from Merrillville High School was just the beginning. She pursued a degree in Biology with a minor in business administration from the University of Southern Indiana before earning her M.D. Dr. Kumar is now a practicing urologist in St. John, but she hasn’t forgotten her roots. In fact, she recently started a program called Finding God Through Medicine which provides free medical care to those who need it most in her hometown community. The program is based on her own personal faith journey and the belief that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare. Dr. Kumar is truly making a difference in the lives of others and we are so proud of her!

Carrying Forward A Family Legacy Of Service To Others:

Dr. Shweta Kumar is a Board Certified Urologist specializing in the care of patients with genitourinary conditions. She is also fellowship trained in robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Kumar grew up in Crown Point, IN, and graduated from Merrillville High School before pursuing a degree in Biology, with a minor in business administration from the University of Southern Indiana. She completed her residency training at Loyola University Medical Center where she served as Chief Resident during her final year.
